Chicago Bears Add To Offense Again With 75th Pick
Jamie Sabau-USA TODAY Sports

After going with defense with their first two draft picks the Chicago Bears kept the theme by selecting offensive lineman Kiran Amegadjie.

It appears that Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles is obsessed with offense this offseason. He is on a mission to build an offense the NFL has never seen. On Night 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft, Poles had two top-ten picks, including the number one pick. He went with quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze.

Now, with their third-round pick, number 75 overall, they picked another offensive player. They selected offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie. Amegadjie comes out of Yale so he is definitely a smart player.

Amegadjie measures 6-foot-5 and weighs 323 pounds. Additionally, he has great length. He has an incredible 85.5-inch wingspan. Despite his size, he is very athletic. He is explosive off the snap and that helps him when he drives his blocks.

Amegadjie has great body control and lateral movement. He can mirror rushers easily. He has good strength to go with his long arms. Once he latches onto the defender the rush ends. It will be difficult to shed the block.

Amegadjie moves out of his stance quickly. He is also agile so he gets to his spot on time. He does a good job of running his feet, staying attached to the defender, and sustaining his power throughout the play.

While Amegadjie will eventually be a quality starter, he will provide depth for the Chicago Bears in 2024. He missed the entire 2020 season since the Ivy League decided not to play due to COVID concerns. He has to improve his handwork a little and needs to put all his tools together. Those are coachable issues, however.

In the meantime, though, Amegadjie provides flexibility and depth. In addition to left tackle, he played right tackle and even some guard. He can find a spot to help in every spot except for center. Eventually, however, he will challenge the current starter at left tackle Braxton Jones.

Poles is known for picking up local kids. Tight end Cole Kmet is from Lake Barrington and linebacker T.J. Edwards is from Lake Villa. Those are just two examples. Now Amegadjie adds to that. He is from Hinsdale.

Amegadjie excels as a run-blocker, creating lateral displacement on angle-drive, down and double-team feed blocks with very good pad level and initial power. He works off the first to the second level with good burst and agility to connect with smaller defenders, and he utilizes his long reach to widen them out and secure rush lanes.

Poles is not just going all-in for the 2024 season. He is also looking into the long-term future. Amegadjie will be a starter and will play well, giving Williams good protection and opening up holes for D’Andre Swift and company on the ground.
